The Labyrinth-building Workshop
Central to Ethereal Realms is The Labyrinth—an ephemeral in-real-life (IRL) space for exploring existential questions. Participants in our workshops, who can be either lay people or experts in different fields, are guided through creating their room within The Labyrinth.
Each room, themed around a specific existential question and an emotion chosen by its creator, becomes an immersive, in-real-life experience throughout the workshop. While these rooms may be personal in their inception, the goal is for their design and content to aim for universality.
Hence, they resonate with those who share questions or wish to explore similar emotional experiences. Participants are introduced to experiential design, positive psychology, and playtesting principles. They are given a plot of land, building materials, specific instructions and restrictions.
After documenting the rooms, the session culminates in a collective experience where everyone navigates and interacts with the rooms designed and built by their peers.
The Labyrinth Exhibition
Following the workshop, The Labyrinth becomes a public exhibition space. This evolution marks The Labyrinth as a destination for exploration and discovery, inviting visitors to navigate the rooms.
Each room offers a gateway to explore the questions and emotions posed by their authors by providing instructions on how to engage with them, sometimes individually and sometimes as a group.
The Labyrinth thus becomes a space for exploration, emphasising the visitors’ personal journeys and interpretations as they traverse this environment.

Ethereal Realms merges experience design with the pursuit of well-being. It transcends traditional entertainment by offering a methodology for creating immersive spaces that support personal growth and foster community building through experiential workshops and knowledge creation.
Research
As visitors journey through The Labyrinth, their interactions within each room contribute to a growing body of knowledge. Visitors are encouraged to self-assess the impact of rooms, reflecting on how they felt before and after experiencing them.
This personal reflection and assessment process is integral to the Ethereal Realms project, as it generates new insights that form the basis for future exhibitions of The Labyrinth that can be specifically tailored to focus on particular themes.
At the same time, new knowledge about the relationship between the rooms and their impact on visitor’s emotions is created. Therefore, Ethereal Realms is a dynamic, ever-evolving methodology that creates Labyrinths that will become more effective with each iteration.
